The July event you don't want to miss on the Island of St. Croix, USVI

July 7, 2022 Corinne Large

Even though our summer months tend to slow down, it’s still such a beautiful time to visit - Lot’s of sunshine, moderate temperatures usually somewhere around 80-85 degrees, a slight breeze, blooming flamboyant and fruiting mango trees, and of course, the refreshing sea to take a dip in. What’s great about visiting or living here during the summer months is to enjoy an entire beach to yourself or partake in a summer event that brings our local community together. July marks the awaited and celebrated annual event of Mango Melee inspired by our island’s favorite fruit - THE MANGO!

Held this year at the St. George Botanical Garden on July 10, 2022 from 8 am - 5 pm, Mango Melee celebrates this local fruit with education, contests, games, food, music and vendors from around the Virgin Islands - something for the whole family to enjoy!

Mango Dis, Mango Dat is an exciting competition bringing together all food lovers - from local VI chefs, to mixologist to taste testers (yes, this could be you!). The competition includes four categories with mangoes as the main theme, naturally.

  1. Sweets

  2. Salsas and Sauces

  3. Sips

  4. Stuff

The tastiest and juicest food eating competition is held right here in the gardens! Be a competitor or an on-looker - either one is so much fun!

If you aren’t on island this year, plan to join us next year! Mango Melee generally takes place the beginning of July on a Sunday. This is such a fun experience that can give you a peak into what it would look like to live here!

Sleep in St. Croix

April 14, 2017 Corinne Large

The beauty of St. Croix is that it is not overrun by big hotels - it has wide open spaces with verdant rolling hills bedazzled with historic sugar mills and sandy beaches lined with coconut palms and sea grape trees.  There are only three "big" hotels on island -The Buccaneer to the East, Carambola to the North West and The Divi Carina on the South East - All compliment the beautiful seascapes and/or the history of St. Croix.  In between these two hotels are boutique hotels, eco-lodges and vacation homes.
