Feather Leaf Inn: St. Croix's newest eco-retreat with historic charm

July 18, 2022 Corinne Large

Feather Leaf Inn, lovingly restored by the current owners, offers an eco-friendly experience with an immersion into St. Croix’s history, nature and….. yourself! This eco-historic experience is the perfect place for a retreat to rest, relax and recharge.

I had the opportunity to stay at the Ocean house for a personal retreat… just me, myself, a ukulele and the beautiful west end sunsets. It was the perfect getaway to recharge with a mix of resting, reading and adventure! During the day I explored the coastline by kayak and snorkeled around some shipwrecks right off the shore. By night I cozied up on the sea facing gallery, poured a glass of wine and read a good book.

This impressive west end property includes a historic great house that houses five individual bedrooms, each with their own bath en suite, a glorious dining room and living room, a 52-foot sunset facing gallery, a pool in a romantic garden setting and a gourmet kitchen set up to host parties, yoga retreats or weddings.

Additionally, the estate’s botanical grounds include two other cottages. The one-bedroom historic stone cottage, the Ocean House, sleeps up to five people, has a private sea-facing gallery and a full kitchen. The Dragonfly House has three-bedrooms featuring sea facing showers (yes, you can take a shower and watch the sunset if you wish), balconies outfitted with hammocks for relaxing any time of the day and a full kitchen.

St. Croix is full of surprises and Feather Leaf Inn is my favorite of all! It embodies what is so special about St. Croix by celebrating the historic charm of our architecture and featuring the nature surrounding the Inn all while being sustainable through their practice and message.

St. Croix is a little different than our sister islands thanks to our sprawling farm land, open pastures, sandy coves, often with no one in sight, and the preserved historic architecture and estates… So a big shout out to Ryan and Corina , owners of Feather Leaf Inn, who have lovingly and passionately restored a little piece of our island while leaving a green footprint and a lot of love on this land.

The July event you don't want to miss on the Island of St. Croix, USVI

July 7, 2022 Corinne Large

Even though our summer months tend to slow down, it’s still such a beautiful time to visit - Lot’s of sunshine, moderate temperatures usually somewhere around 80-85 degrees, a slight breeze, blooming flamboyant and fruiting mango trees, and of course, the refreshing sea to take a dip in. What’s great about visiting or living here during the summer months is to enjoy an entire beach to yourself or partake in a summer event that brings our local community together. July marks the awaited and celebrated annual event of Mango Melee inspired by our island’s favorite fruit - THE MANGO!

Held this year at the St. George Botanical Garden on July 10, 2022 from 8 am - 5 pm, Mango Melee celebrates this local fruit with education, contests, games, food, music and vendors from around the Virgin Islands - something for the whole family to enjoy!

Mango Dis, Mango Dat is an exciting competition bringing together all food lovers - from local VI chefs, to mixologist to taste testers (yes, this could be you!). The competition includes four categories with mangoes as the main theme, naturally.

  1. Sweets

  2. Salsas and Sauces

  3. Sips

  4. Stuff

The tastiest and juicest food eating competition is held right here in the gardens! Be a competitor or an on-looker - either one is so much fun!

If you aren’t on island this year, plan to join us next year! Mango Melee generally takes place the beginning of July on a Sunday. This is such a fun experience that can give you a peak into what it would look like to live here!
